Mary Frances Mitchell was the daughter of James H. Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell.

She married William Nathan Strong on December 15th 1870 in Claiborne, Parish Louisiana.

Between 1850 and 1852, James H. Mitchell and two of his brothers-in-law, James M. McKenzie and Lacy McKenzie, with their families, moved to Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. The two McKenzies were shown in the 1850 Census of McNairy County, Tennessee, so they started their trek to Louisiana after that date. However, James H. Mitchell does not appear in that census, nor was he found in the counties bordering McNairy County in 1850, so his whereabouts at that date remain uncertain.

We do know James H. Mitchell was in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, by Feb. 22, 1851 when a son, Israel P. Mitchell, was born. James Mitchell purchased his first land in Claiborne Parish, land which is now in the town of Homer, the parish seat, on April 16, 1852. His next two children were born in Claiborne Parish and James H. Mitchell resided there until probably about the first part of 1886, even though his name does not appear in the 1860 Census of that parish.

The 1880 Census of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana shows him as J. A. (?) Michael (Household No. 742-742, Homer Post Office). In 1880 he was living in Ward 3 of Claiborne Parish and his household then included his wife, Elizabeth; their unmarried daughter, Margaret or Maggie; their married son, Robert A. (Dock) Mitchell, Dock's wife and two children.

In December, 1885, James H. Mitchell sold land to George Gill in Claiborne Parish and it is believed he and his wife moved to Shackelford County, Texas within a month or two after this, apparently to live with his sons there. In 1891 James H. Mitchell again sold land in Claiborne Parish and the deed gives his residence as Claiborne, but he was residing then in Shackelford County, Texas.

William and Mary Strongs son Robert Strong is buried in Midway Cemetery in Jones County Texas .

I have 7 children listed for William N. Strong and Mary Frances Mitchell.
