Della E. Springer Hilsmier, 91, of Ossian, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Ossian Health Care and Rehabilitation.Born in rural Allen County on Dec. 3, 1916 to Gust E. and Annette (Dettmer) Springer, she married Orville Hilsmier at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on May 29, 1938; he preceded her in death on April 17, 1986. Mrs. Hilsmier was a lifelong and active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.Surviving relatives include one son, Orville Hilsmier Jr. of Ossian; three daughters, Ellen (General) Jackson and Ann Voors, both of Fort Wayne, and Donna (Mike) Hippensteele of Ossian; one brother, Kenneth Springer of Ossian; four sisters, Linda Caston of Ossian, Mildred Menze of Fort Wayne, Bernadine Brewer of Ossian and Joann Voelker of Hoagland; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hilsmier was also preceded in death by two children, Robert Hilsmier and Annette Bunnell; two sons-in-law, Tom Voors and Bill Bunnell, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Nathan R. Wadewitz officiating. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian and from one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is at St. Mark's Church Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the church fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
