Service: 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Gordon with the Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Gordon Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn. Visitation: was 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials: The family requests memorials in Harold's memory be made to the City of Gordon-Gordon Community Center Fund, P.O. Box 227, Gordon, Texas 76453.
Harold was born March 23, 1927, in Jenks, Okla., to Charley and Mary Lily Warren Burgett. He attended Gypsy Elementary School and graduated from Bristow High School in Bristow, Okla. He married Mary Lou Riggs on Aug. 29, 1947, in Tulsa, Okla. They settled in Gordon to raise their family.
Harold was a custom home builder and rancher for over 50 years. He used his talents to help build churches, as well as giving his time to go on many mission trips to Mexico. He supported his wife, Mary, on medical missions as well.
He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, member of the Gordon Lions Club and had served as mayor of Gordon as well as serving on the Gordon School Board and City Council.
Survivors: His wife, Mary Burgett of Gordon; sons, Stephen W. Burgett and wife, Carolyn, of McKinney and Randal L. Burgett and wife, Deborah, of Sanger; daughter, Anna Lou Young of Longview; brother, Charley Burgett of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Retha Childress of Skiatook, Okla., Dean Harris of Owasso, Okla., and Oneita Smith of Highland Village; grandchildren, Stacy Tilley, Tori Armstrong, Kyle Burgett, Benjamin Harold Burgett, Aaron Burgett and Adam Burgett; great-grandchildren, Tristan Griffith, Breanne Griffith, Gage Armstrong and Ayden Armstrong.
