After his dad died he and many close relatives and their families decided to homestead in CO. His mother, sister, brother, and the many relatives moved there at the same time and took land next to each other. The one big drawback Grandma told me was they were all "city people" and didn't really know that much about ranching and farming.
E.T. Long homesteaded from 1915-1921, Sligo Precinct #60, Weld Co., CO, and worked as a fireman on UP Railroad, from Sheridan, CO to Cheyenne, WY. Later, after leaving the homestead he owned a Ford Garage in Bushnell, NE until moving back to Lincoln, NE in 1925. He married Gladys Carol Wilson on 7 June 1915 in Sterling, Logan, CO. They had three children, Carol Catherine, Elyse Evelyn, and Louis William.
