Mr. Marrs when but a child, moved to Illinois, coming to Gentry county, Mo., in 1840. Was married to Miss Elnora Arnold in 1846, to this union was born eight children, seven of them seven of them [sic] with his wife preceeding him to the grave, leaving one son in California, a second wife several grand children and a host of friends to mourn his death. He with his wife went to California in 1849, returned to Gentry county about 1856 since which he has lived with a few exceptions where he enlisted in defense of the country in 1862 in company E, first Missouri calvalry [sic] and was honorably discharged in March, 1865, thus another of Gentry county's pioneers has gone from us. "Uncle Henry" will be greatly missed.

He was converted and united with the Baptist church at the age of 21 and has lived a constant christian life always being bound at the post of duty in the church and often exhorting the young people with tears to come to Jesus and be saved. Thus in the death of Henry Marrs the church has sustained a great loss. He will be remembered by his kindness to all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted at the pleasant [sic] Valley Baptist vchurcy by Rev. N. B. Sill after which the remains were laid to rest in the Henton cemetery to await the morning of the resurrection.
