Edward was the son of Johon (John) and Mary Ann Lewis Jones. He was a coal miner in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. He immigrated to the US in 1887 with his wife and four of his seven children. He came to the US (Utah) to teach Welsh mining techniques to the miners in the US. He was still working in the mines at the time of his death. He died in the 1924 Castle Gate mining disaster.
