The oldest son of Philipp and Mary Ditter, he came to Sublimity, Oregon with his mother, grandmother and uncle when he was about 18 years old.

He married Anna Rose Hottinger, 16 Nov 1897 in Sublimity, Marion County, Oregon. They had 7 children, one of which died in infancy. Joseph owned and operated a dairy farm in Sublimity.

Aumsville --- Joseph Ditter, 71, died August 16 at his home on Aumsville R F.D. Survived by widow. Anna R, and children; Mrs. Gus Hendrlcks of Sublimity, Mrs. Frank Roeser of Gervais, Mrs. A. G. Levermann of Aumsville, Louis, Isabelle and Regina at home; 13 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Matt, Edward, Mrs. Mary Schrewe and Mrs. Rose Becker. Solemn requiem high mass at Immaculate Conception church in Shaw at 9 a.m. Thursday, by Rev. D. K. O'Connell. Recitation of the Rosary at Montuary Tuesday at 9 p.m.. again at home Wednesday at 9 p.m. Burial in St. Boniface cemetery, Sublimity. Weddle mortuary of Staylon In charge oi arrangements.
