Donna Wilma Tobey was born September 21, 1912 to Frank and Lilia (Kent) Scribner on the family farm near Bancroft. Except for the years she was attended college in Ypsilanti and the final years of year life when she was in foster care, Donna prided herself in having lived her entire life within a short distance from the farm on which she was born.

Donna attended Fremont Country School and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1928 at age 15. She enrolled in Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University), earning her Life Teaching Certificate in 1931 and Bachelor of Arts degree in 1932. Upon graduation, she returned to Shiawassee County and taught in the Eddy School, Vernon School, and Bancroft School, where she also served as principal.

On April 2, 1940, Donna married Elstin Tobey in Fremont, Ohio and took several years off from her teaching career. Elstin passed away in September 1966.

Donna returned to teaching in the early 1950s as a third grade teacher at Perry Elementary School, from where she retired in 1973.

Donna attended the Bancroft Methodist Church and was an active member in the Bancroft Monday Study Club, Bancroft Order of the Eastern Star, Shiawassee County Historical Society, and Shiawassee Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. She was a superintendent of the women's division of the Shiawassee County Fair for many years. While teaching, Donna was a member of the Perry Education Association and Michigan Education Association.

While she still enjoyed the vitality of her Golden Years, Donna loved traveling with her friends and family, making crafts, spending time in her gardens, and the company of her cats.

She is predeceased by her husband Elstin. Survivors include daughter Donna and son-in-law Brent Little of Bancroft; grandsons Lance (Jacalyn) Little of Owosso and Layne (Kary) Little of Durand; and grandchildren Everett Little, Zachary Merrill and Samantha Merrill.

Through a century of life, Donna has touched countless lives through her endearing spirit and kindness. Donna will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, devoted educator, and a caring and compassionate person.
