Leona Esther Cross of Grand Blanc, Michigan, age 89, died Friday, April 30, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 E Hill Rd; Her nephew the Reverend Wayne G.Root, of Brandon, Florida officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation 5-9 PM Sunday and 1-5 PM and 6-9 PM Monday at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Cross was born in Greenville, Montcalm Co, Michigan, on May 27, 1910 and was a resident of the Flint area since 1915, moving to Grand Blanc in 1987. She married Paul W. Cross on July 12, 1929 in Flint. She was a member of the Davison Free Methodist Church. She owned and operated the Betty Dress Shop in Flint from 1940 to 1960. Surviving are her daughter Eleanor and Husband Dr. Benjamin Koepke; 3 grandchildren, Gary and Wife Sue Sergent, of Flint; Dennis and wife Mary Sergent of Swartz Creek; Colleen and husband Don Short of Flint; 9 great grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Scott O'Guinn, Ryan, Kimberly, and Timothy Segent; Angela, Jon and Kelly Short; Megan and husband Jarod Eister and Katie Tate; 2 great grand children Olivia and Jacob Eister; Sister-in-law-Madge Cross, Brother-in-law Alvin Bentley of Tuscon Arizona, several nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest beside her husband who died on October 15, 1985, and son Gregory who died February 19, 1950 and foster daughter Jacqueline Kay Cross. She was also preceded in death by Sisters, Fern Root, Ethel Mecomber, Blanche Bentley, brothers, Jesse Carrill, Forest Wolverton and Martin Wolverton and Great Grandson Joshua James Sergent.
