On May 15, 1895, he married Hattie Ellen Mitts at Polo, Missouri. After 24 years of marriage they divorced in Portland, Oregon, on April 1919. John never remarried.
John held various jobs which included a salesman of a dry goods store, flagman on road construction, and was a proprietor of his own service station.
On April 13, 1949, he passed away at the McMinnville Convalescent Hospital. Survivors include two sons, John Lowther of Yamhill, Oregon, and Richard Lowther of Reedsport, Oregon; three daughters, Dessie Alice Fletcher of Portland, Oregon, Mable Emma Swatman of Eureka, California, and Ellen Snider of Warm Springs, Oregon; his ex-wife Hattie Ellen Crabtree of Portland, Oregon; and his brother, Robert Franklin Lowther of Philomath, Oregon.
Preceded him in death were his parents Andrew and Margaret Lowther; brothers, Samuel of Oxford, West Virginia, Richard of Portland, Oregon, William of Harrisville, West Virginia, Archibald of Missouri, and Luther of Merlin, Colorado; sisters, Martha Taylor of Big Bend, West Virginia, Sarah Lowther of Oxford, West Virginia, Margaret Mary of Los Angeles, Elizabeth Alice, and Clara LaVerna.
Funeral Services were held on April 15th at the Chapel of Macy and Son. Reverand Putman officiated. Interment will be at Evergreen Memoral Park.
