Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 06, 2010 at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Friday, May 07, 2010 at the First Christian Church, 314 E. 2nd St. N. in Newton

Interment: Immediately following the service on Friday, May 07, 2010 at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Military Honors by American Legion Post 111 & VFW Post 1655, both of Newton.

Those left to honor the memory of Harold are his wife of 62 years, Helen of Newton; grandson, Chad Halter of Newton; his two brothers, Lawrence (Cora) Halter of Baxter and Wilbur (Jean) Halter of Newton; his sister, Shirley Brown of Newton; his sister-in-law, Helen Halter of Newton; daughter-in-law, Judy (Jeff) Conn of Newton; and his many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopold and Matilda (Bach) Halter; son, Bruce Halter; grandson, Scott Halter; and a sister, Lucile Halter; brother & sister-in-law, Lewis (Lois) Halter; and brother, Robert Halter.

Harold served his country in the U. S. Army serving from 1942-1946.

Harold graduated from Baxter High School in 1940.

Harold lived in Baxter until moving to Newton in 1973. He was a production worker at the Maytag Company in Newton for 38 ½ years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Baxter School Board, the VFW Post 1655 and American Legion Post 111. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, he just liked being outside, gardening and sports.

MEMORIALS may be left to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Jasper County Honor Flight; memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
