** Maude was born Dec. 12, 1904 to John L. and Grace Young in their sod home in Fullerton, Hodgeman County, Kansas. She was the oldest of five children. Maude only went to the eighth grade in school, but was a champion speller. Maude's family moved to Colorado where she met Albert Cavanah, who had also come from Kansas, and they were married in Nov. of 1934 in Fruita, Colorado. They made their home in Grand Junction, CO where in 1936 a girl was born in March, they named her Thelma Grace, then in May 1937 a boy, Leslie Everett was born.
Albert worked for W.P.A until moving to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1941, to help build the Farragut Naval Training Center. They then moved back to Colorado in 1942, where Albert worked as a Deputy Sheriff and farmed while Maude cared for the goats, chickens, and rabbits. In March 1943 another girl, Barbara Lee was born. Then in 1946 the family moved to a farm 10 miles from anywhere, close to Havana, Arkansas, but later returned to Colorado in 1947. In 1949 they moved to Nampa, Idaho where they lived together until Albert died in 1985. Maude was a long time member of the Nazarene Church, who loved to read, sew, and crochet.
** Maude is survived by her son, Leslie; daughter, Barbara; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
