Daniel was one of 9 children, Amanda A. E. (1841), Ann "Annie" C.M. (1843), Olivia E. "Levey" (1847), John William Milton (1847), Martin Henry (1850), Elizabeth (1850), Malinda E. (1845) & Louis Christopher Columbus (1854).
Daniel moved to Nemaha Co., NE by 1870 and built his first blacksmith shop on J St. north of Central. He built a second on J St. and later built one at 811 Central Ave. He was a member of the City Council that changed the name of the town from Sheridan to Auburn. He married Margaret Alice Presson in 1881. They had one son, Cleophus "Cleo" Burton (1884).
