Death of Mrs. H. C. Adams.
Never have the people of Battleford received a greater shock than on Friday morning, Nov. 25, when the death of Mrs. H. C. Adams of Battleford became known.
The deceased up to ten days ago was in her usual health, when she contracted what at first seemed a slight cold but which proved to be of a more serious nature and on Thursday afternoon her medical attendant found that an operation was necessary. She was at once removed to the Battleford Hospital and operated on by Drs. Millar and Jackson, assisted by Nurse Cardell of London, but despite every effort of doctors and nurse she passed away at an early hour yesterday morning, fortified by the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church of which she was most devoted member, her spiritual adviser, Rev. A. H. Bigonesse, having visited her daily during the brief illness. at her bedside, besides her grief stricken husband, were Mesdames B. and J. A. Prince, who remained with her throughout the night.
Mrs. Adams was Miss Emma Paré, daughter of Surgeon L. A. Paré of the R.N.W.M.P., now stationed at White Horse, Yukon. She was born at Lachine, Quebec. in 1877, and was educated at the Convent de Ste. Anne, Lachine, near Montreal. After graduating in 1891 she came to Battleford, where her father was then stationed. She was married at Battleford on Sept. 24, 1898 to H. C. Adams. Her quiet and unassuming manner won her the love and esteem of all with whom she came in contact.
To her grief stricken husband and her dear children, her father, sisters and brother we tender our most sincere sympathy and we pray that in their deep grief they may find some consolation in the thought that her whole life has been one unbroken preparation for Heaven.
The funeral took place this morning from her late residence to St. Vital's Church where service was conducted by Rev. A. H. Bigonesse, an thence to the Battleford cemetery. The church was crowded to the doors and a very large number of friends, including the Foresters of which order Mr. Adams is a member, accompanied the deceased to her last resting place on the beautiful banks of the Saskatchewan.
