John Millard "Wimpy" Allen, son of the late Albert Lee Allen and Grace Florence Allen, was born on Jan. 27, 1918, at Greenville and died in the Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center at Kennett on May 1, 2010 at the age of 92.

Mr. Allen was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Bernie, the owner of Goodnight-Allen Real Estate and Insurance in Bernie, a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II, a charter member of the Bernie Lions Club and a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Anna Pauline Glenn on March 13, 1948, at Bernie. Mrs. Allen survives of the home in Bernie.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Toyce Hughes of Springfield; six grandchildren, Allen Hughes and wife, Karen of Bernie, Robert Hughes and wife, Brenda of Washington, D. C., Julia Leek, Lili Dolenz, Alexia Willis and Sara Ing; by great-grandchildren, Christen Clary and husband David, Candice Stepp, Jessica Hughes and Kaycee Hughes; one great-great-granddaughter, Emma Jane Clary; one sister, Sadie Knight of the state of California.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Nelda Yvonne Hughes; one grandson, Christopher Hughes; two brothers, Floyd Allen and Willard Allen; and one sister, Gladys Young.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5-8 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2010.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. O. H. Brooks and Rev. Tim Ingle officiating.

Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors.
