In Memoriam

Our Company was saddened by the death of Fred R. Lowe, MP&L Engineer, who died in a Duluth Hospital on February 20 at the age of 69.

One of the oldest employees in years with the Company, Fred joined the Engineering Department of the Great Northern Company on March 20, 1905, during the construction of the original Thomson Hydro-Electric Station development. After the Thomson station was completed, he did all the field engineering in locating our various reservoir sites on the St. Louis River, and made the topographical surveys for the present Fish Lake, Island Lake, Boulder Lake and White Face reservoirs. He also supervised the field work on surveys of may power and reservoir sites on the Mississippi, Crow Wing, and Kawishiwi rivers.

Born in Michigan, Fred had been a Duluth resident for 32 years. He was a member of the First Methodist church, Modern Woodsmen of America, Duluth Engineers Club, and was past president of the Woodland Community Club, past president of the MP&I, Credit Union, past president of the American Forestry Association, and a former member of the Minnesota National Guard.

Fred was extremely popular with his fellow employees. He unobtrusive quiet way of getting things done won him many friends wherever he went. A great lover of the out-of-doors, he had a genial smile for everyone he met. Fred will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Fred are his widow, two sons, a daughter, a grandchild and a brother. To them we offer our deepest sympathies.
