The funeral for retired Gifford, Idaho, area farmer Alvin E. Steigers will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston. Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens at Lewiston.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel.
He died of causes related to age Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. He was 86.
He had farmed and ranched in the Rosetta area near Gifford since 1941.
The son of William and Elizabeth Schneider Steigers, he was born Nov. 3, 1905, at Rhineland, Mo., where he lived for the first five years of his life.
In 1910, the family moved to Kansas and remained there for three years before coming to Burley, Idaho. They remained at Burley for five years and moved to Asotin for a year before settling at Cherry Lane, Idaho.
He attended Stoney Point School at Cherry Lane and married Mabel Heimgartner Nov. 7, 1928, at Lewiston.
They made their home at Cherry Lane until moving to Potlatch Ridge, Idaho, in 1935. They moved to their home in the Rosetta area in 1941.
He was a member of the Clearwater Power Co. board of directors for 15 years and also was a member of the Wheat Growers Association, the Predator Control Board, the Cattlemen's Association and Lapwai Valley Grange and served on the school board in Rosetta and Gifford.
Four brothers died previously.
The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Joseph Family Hospice, P.O. Box 816, Lewiston, Idaho 83501, or the Cottonwood Creek Community Church, Rt. 1, Culdesac, Idaho 83524.
