Ralph was born to Jerome and Grace (Dixon) Mummert. He lived most of his adult live in Clinton, IA until moving to Savanna, IL in 1964. He married Alice (Keeley) in 1927. They had one daughter. He married Francis Halstead and had one child, Roger, previous to marrying Alice. He was a farmer in his younger years working on his father's farm and was a salesman.
