Obituary: Annabelle Evelyn Roantree, 85, died October 4, 2006 at Kingston General Hospital after a three-week illness and following a heart attack. Born in California, Ont., April 17, 1921, she was the first of five children of Adelbert Sly and his wife, the former Lucy McMachen. She attended Morton Public School and married Roy A. Roantree on January 31, 1938, in Newboro. They moved to Gananoque in 1943 and Mrs. Roantree worked as a seamstress for business and private customers, as well as being a house­wife and mother. She identified with Grace United Church in Gananoque and was a member of the local Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. She lived most of her married life on Garden Street in Gananoque, but in January 2006, due to failing health, she moved to the Carveth Care Lodge with her husband Roy. She loved to quilt and knit, and had made numerous preemie baby sets for Kingston General Hospital. Mrs. Roantree is survived by her husband Roy, sons Malcolm A., Murray E. and Marvin R. Roantree and daughter Bethany R. Sanden, as well as 10 grandchildren and nine great -grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Ralph W. Sly and two sisters Luella M. Earl and Marion E. Pepper. She was predeceased by her brother Howard G. Sly and one granddaughter, Kelly Roantree. Friends called at the Tompkins Funeral Home, Gananoque, where on October 7 the funeral was held with Rev. Harry Seeley, retired United Church minister officiating. Burial followed at Gananoque Cemetery. The pallbearers were grandson Douglas Roantree and five great-grandsons, Ryan, Greg and Shawn Cross and Kyle and Dylan Snowdon.
