William Henry Frederick was born to Jacob Frederick and Louisa Ann Schwenk on 29 Sept. 1854 in Schuylkill, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania (according to his obituary found in The Belleville Telescope newspaper, dated 26 April 1923). According to his obituary, he moved with his parents to Homer, Champaign, Illinois in 1860. However, William and his parents are found in the 1860 US Census living in Butler, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. The family later moved to Chillcothe, Livingston, Missouri; and then moved to Clyde, Cloud, Kansas sometime between 1871 and 1875.

William married Abigail Caroline Moore on 3 October 1875 in Colfax Township, Cloud, Kansas. Two children were born to William and Abigail:

1. Jessie A. Frederick
2. Frank Marvin Frederick

Their daughter Jessie married William Edward Brown (and then later divorced him). Their son Frank married Myrtle E. Montgomery.

William and his wife Abigail moved to Belleville, Republic, Kansas in 1885. He followed the Blacksmith trade in Belleville. In 1913, he was hurt quite seriously when shoeing a mule. Two or three ribs were broken on his right side, plus a sprained ankle and many bruises (according to a newspaper report dated 6 March 1913). William continued the trade of blacksmith up until the time of his death.
