Louise Adcock Jencks, Galesburg Chapel
95, of 2286 US Hwy. 150N, Wataga, IL, died at 3:27 AM Tuesday, February 3, 2004 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on November 28, 1908 in Galesburg, IL to Clark and Daisy Deatherage Adcock. She married William Jencks. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1962. She then married William Croson. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, William Robert "Bob" Jencks of New Boston, NH, a daughter, Elizabeth (and Hans) Rott of Blacksburg, VA and three grandchildren, Maria Theresa Rott, Devon Louise Jencks and Kary Jencks Sagna.
She was the head librarian at Ohio State University for 9 years. She was the catalog librarian at Knox College for 15 years. She was a 1926 graduate of Galesburg High School, a 1930 graduate of Knox College and then she graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in library science.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg and attended Rio (IL) Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at Knox College. She was a member of the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and was a founding member of the hospital craft shop.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Friday, February 6, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. David Dennis officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8 PM Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery, near Alexis, IL. Memorials can be made to Rio Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church.

Born Nov. 28, 1908, in Galesburg to Clark and Daisy Deatherage Adcock, she married William Jencks in December 1933. He died Dec. 7, 1962. She married William Croson in December 1988 in Lakeview, Ark. He died July 23, 1996.

Surviving are one son, William Robert "Bob" Jencks of New Boston, N.H.; one daughter, Elizabeth (and Hans) Rott of Blacksburg, Va.; and three granddaughters.

She was the head librarian at Ohio State University for nine years and then was the catalog librarian at Knox College in Galesburg for 10 years, retiring in 1975.

A member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Phi Beta Kappa, she was a 1930 graduate of Knox College and received her degree in library science from the University of Illinois in 1931.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg and attended Rio Presbyterian Church in Rio.

She also was a member of Galesburg Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and was a founding member of the hospital craft shop.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, where visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight. The Rev. David Dennis will officiate. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery near Alexis.
