After several years of intense suffering. Mrs. Mary Gallup was called from this world of sickness and pain to the rest and peace promised those by the Savior in whom she had for many years placed her implicit trust and faith. Her death occurred at the family residence on Beech street in this city on Wednesday, August 2, 1899. In her last hours she was surrounded by her children and relatives, and everything possible was done to alleviate her suffering. But her affliction was of a cancerous nature and human skill could not combat with its progress.
Deceased was born in Lisbon, Conn. in 1836, and consequently was in her sixty-third year. On May the 15th 1855, she was united in marriage to Mr. Kinney Gallup, and December 1865, they removed to Illinois, settling on a farm they purchased at Hallock. Six children blessed their union, all of whom were present at the funeral. In 1887 they retired from farm life, came to this city and have since resided here. The children are Mrs. Briggs, who has for several year made her home with her parent; Prentiss L Gallup of Blue Ridge; John S. Gallup, of Blue Ridge; William K. Gallup of Birmingham, Ia.; and Mrs. Nellie M. Custer, of Paris, Texas. Mrs. Gallup was a faithful member of the Methodist Church, and the funeral services were held at the Blue Ridge church this morning, Rev. T. Martin delivering the sermon, after which the remains were laid away in the Blue Ridge cemetery in the presence of a large and sorrowful host of relatives and friends.
