Decorated War Hero Robert Starling Beattie was wounded in combat in Sicily on May 6, 1945. He fought on the front lines and was in and out of foxholes. Robert also had his 3 only brothers that fought in WW2, Vane Beattie, Delbert Beattie, and Fred Beattie Jr. In many of the letters he sent back home he was wet and cold from laying in the foxholes avoiding enemy artillery. On May 6, 1945 he was wounded in the shoulder by the enemy artillery. Robert was a Purple Heart recipiant in the European Theater in WW2 with one Silver Star Good Conduct Ribbon, along with 5 battle stars.

After the war he returned home to St. Joseph, MO to lead an unassuming career as a truck driver. He died of stomach cancer. Had a lot of his stomach removed Waldron, MO.
