CHARLES K. FUQUA DIES ON DAY OF ELECTION
Onetime Secretary to Sanders and Pleasant Supporter Dies at Opening of Polls.
Charles K. Fuqua, of Baton Rouge, one of the best known men in Louisiana politics, one time secretary to Governor Jared Y. Sanders, and staunch supporter and political aid of Col. Ruffin G. Pleasant, governor-elect, died in New Orleans on Tuesday Morning (18 Apr 1916), at the French hospital, just at the hour of the opening of the polls.
Mr. Fuqua was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee at large from the sixth congressional district for twelve years, and who was chairman of the senatorial committee of his district. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Pleasant speakers' committee, and before confined to his bed, was regarded as one of the most brilliant workers in the Democratic headquarters.
Mr. Fuqua was a native of Baton Rouge, having been born there in December 1869. He was a member of on of the prominent families in East Louisiana and was identified in Louisiana politics for the past quarter of a century.
He was buried in Baton Rouge on Wednesday Morning (19 Apr 1916.)
