One of four boys, he was born and raised in Keokuk, Ia. His father died in the Influenza epidemic and left their mother to raise them alone.

He was ordained on May 14th, 1939 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa. He served as a chaplain in the Army, and served as a parish priest, he taught at St. Ambrose College from 1940-1966 and was pastor of St. Mary's Albia in Iowa from 1966-1971 when he retired in 1971 to the Kahl home and passed away there 12 years later.

Services for the Rev. Francis E. Marlin, 69, a resident of Kahl Home for the Aged and Infirm, Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kahl Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Halligan McCabe Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the home.
Memorials may be made to Priest Aid Society, Davenport, or Kahl Home, where Father Marlin died Wednesday.
He was a priest in the Davenport Diocese, serving as associate pastor from 1939-1940 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. He was a professor from 1940-1946 at St. Ambrose College, Davenport, and served as pastor from 1966-1971 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Albia, Iowa. He retired in 1971.

Survivors include a brother, Robert, San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his Father & Mother and by two brothers: Edward Marlin 1960, and John Marlin.
