Mrs. Lidia Easton Called by Death

MONTEREY, April 17 - Word was received here late yesterday of the death, at an Atascadero hospital, of Mrs. Lida Hyatt Easton, wife of Horace R. Easton of San Miguel and a relative of several Monterey peninsula residents. Mrs. Easton succumbed to a brief attack of pneumonia. Beside her widower and four children, she leaves her mother, Mrs. M. Murray of Corvallis, Oregon, and a brother, Edwin B. Hyatt, also of Corvallis.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon in the Christian church in this city, with the Rev. Lee Sadler officiating.

1930 was the year life changed for the Easton families - Lida Easton died - a victim of hepatitis, according to the family. With her death, Horace was left grief-stricken. He was also left with four small children he did not know how to care for or rear alone. Family members pitched in to help raise the children. The family broke into three parts - the youngest child, Jeannie, went to Helen in Salinas; Phyllis, Marjorie and Bob (Rockwell Robert Easton) spent the summer with their Granny (Mame Easton) and Granddad (Robert Easton) in Indian Valley; and Horace grieved alone.

Robert and Mame stayed in Indian Valley for about seven more months and then decided that managing the ranch alone was just too difficult and too lonely. They rented out the property and moved into a small cottage built for them in Buena Vista, where Helen lived with her family outside of Salinas.
