Georgia Thora (Aspelin) Kesler

Georgia Thora (Aspelin) Kesler, formerly of Dwight, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at an eldercare facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on December 8, 1924, in Dwight, to Albert and Dagny Nicholson Aspelin, and was raised on a farm that was just outside its city limits.

After Georgia's 1942 high-school graduation, she moved to Wichita. She then went to work for Boeing and assisted the nation's World War II efforts. Her main assignments there involved assembling the B-29 heavy-bombers' wingtips and dorsal fins.

Before the war's end, she entered the nurse-training program at Wichita's Saint Francis Hospital's School of Nursing. After graduating, she joined its staff as a registered nurse. She eventually enlisted in the US Army, entered as a 2nd-lieutenant nurse, and then relocated to Denver, Colorado, where she worked at the Fitzsimons General Hospital. While treating its scores of wounded soldiers, she met and married one of them: David H. Kesler.

After David's recovery, the couple relocated to his hometown, Salt Lake City, Utah. He became a banker and Georgia continued working as nurse. The couple had four
children, but later divorced.

During Georgia's nursing career, she worked
at several of Salt Lake City's health facilities. They included the Intermountain Clinic, the Salt Lake County Hospital, and the University of Utah's Medical Center. Eventually, she joined the local Veterans' Hospital's staff, where she remained until her 1986 retirement.

In her spare time, Georgia enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, cooking, reading, and sewing.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters (Lola Aspelin, Kansas City, Missouri; Esther Hogle, Topeka; Helen Hill, Wichita; and Norma Wendt, Chicago, Illinois), a brother (James Aspelin, Dwight), and a daughter (Ruth K. Howells, Salt Lake City). She is survived by three of her children and their spouses (John A. and Wendi Kesler, Charlotte and Jim Kirkwood, and Judith K. Patterson, who all live in Salt Lake City),
seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters (Ruth Reid, Manhattan, and Rosalie Myrtle, Wichita), and a brother (Edward Aspelin, Dwight).

Following private services, Georgia's cremated remains were dispersed over her favorite golf course's fairways.
