He also taught chess and took students to national competitions in New York City. Cause of death was diabetes. He is survived by two daughters, Rene Marie Rumbaugh Saunders and Suzanne Kathleen Rumbaugh; mother Margaret M and step father Robert W Leverenz of Portland, brother Richard Fred.
