GARDINER --- Irene Lillian (Delaware) Baker, 83, of Pond Road, Gardiner, died Monday evening at the Kennebec Valley Medical Center, Gardiner following a brief illness.
She was born in Gardiner, June 17, 1897, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Gilbert) Delaware.
She was a life long resident of Gardiner and was in business for 50 years as the owner of Irene's Beauty Studio. She was employed at the Augusta State Hospital as a hairdresser for 15 years. She was also a member of the Maine State Employees Association.
She is survived by one daughter, Monica B. Willis of Gardiner; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner.

Funeral prayers will be recited Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Gardiner.
