Born in Blakely, GA to the late Evan and Laura Ross Bass. Best known as "Rev". A resident of Steinhorst Apartments until earlier this month, he passed away at Masonic Home Care Community of Utica, NY. He attended Early County School in Blakely, GA. Before migrating north, he farmed land with his mother.On July 4, 1931 Rev. Bass was joined in marriage to the former Eula L. Johnson and their union brought three children. In 1940, Rev. Bass came to Utica, NY, where he was first employed at the Utica Radiator Corporation. He was later employed by Savage Arms, then went on the work at New York Central Railroad an retired from there at 15 years. Rev. Bass soon came out of retirement and was employed at the Utica YMCA for 9 years.In 1942, he joined Hope Chapel AME Zion Church of Utica, NY where he was a loyal and devoted member for 37 years. While at Hope Chapel he served as President of the Steward Board, a Sunday School Teacher, Bible Class Leader and Exhorted. In 1978, he joined St. James AME Church of Utica, NY, where he accepted his call to preach, and was ordained a Local Elder at the age of 85, and served as Associated Minister under several Pastors at St. James. Rev. Bass is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Eula; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Brown Shaw and her husband Ben, of Utica, NY: a daughter, Carrie Wright of Chicago, IL; an adopted daughter Jean Baird Davis of Deerfield, NY; and a daughter-in-law Juanita Holes Bass of Frankfort, NY. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ruth Bass Miss, and his son C.W. Bass. He was also predeceased by twin sisters; Lessie and Carrie. Rev.Bass is also survived by 18 grand children, 24 great-grand children and 7 great-great-grand children, a special niece, Ozie Mans of Irvington, NJ a special niece and nephew, Margaret and Elijah Porter of Nutley, NJ. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Hospice for their loving care and compassion, and a special thanks to his nurse, Irene.
