TALLMADGE -- Nicholas A. D'Amico, 86, passed away peacefully Monday night, May 10, 2010, at Hospice Care Center in Akron with his family at his side.
Nick was born May 23, 1923 in Italy, a son of the late Daniel and Mary D'Amico, came to America as a child, and lived most of his life in the Youngstown area before moving to Tallmadge in 1990. Mr. D'Amico served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He worked at U.S. Steel Corporation, Ohio Works, for 28 years, retiring when the mill closed in the late 1970's.
Mr. D'Amico enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling (especially to Laughlin, Nevada), playing cards, playing slots, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Nick leaves a son, Daniel J. (Debbie) D'Amico of Austintown; a daughter, Judy (Jim) Allison of Columbia Station; a brother, Daniel (Beverly) D'Amico of Lady Lake, Fla.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his companion of 20 years, Lois Crossen, with whom he made his home in Tallmadge.
His wife, Mary E. Costello D'Amico, whom he married in 1942, died Aug. 1, 1988. A son, Nicholas Jr., a brother, Peter, and three sisters, Josephine, Lucy and Adeline, are also deceased.
