Mrs. Carpenter, 300 S Gibson St. one of Millers first postmistress, died Friday in Methodist Hospital at 82.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John North, Millers pioneers. She married the late Mr. Dwight Carpenter 62 years ago. Mrs. Carpenter was postmistress of the Miller Station from 1909 to 1919.
Her husband, who came to Gary from Chicago in 1906, worked for Gary Land Company. 28 years, retiring in 1942. He was active in the early building of Gary and had charge of erection of Miller school.
Mrs. carpenter was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and Miller senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include a son, George S. Carpenter of Gary: two daughters, Mrs Robert G. Bradfute of Gary and Mrs. Frank Lundstrom of Portage, a brother Thomas North of Clearwater, Fla., four sisters Ms. Emma Carroll of Gary, Mrs. Agnes Johnson of Camarillo, Calif. Mrs. Ethel Calder of Clearwater, Fla. and Mrs. Grace Davis of Dunedin, Fla. four grandchildren and eight great- great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p. m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Robert E. Lindstrom officiating burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may
