Anna Adams Thompson 1920 - 2018
Anna Adams Thompson died on July 13, 2018 after a short illness. She was born June 25, 1920 to Frank and Anna Cull Adams in New Hampton, Iowa. She is predeceased by her husband Carmi (Tom) and sons Scott and Alan. She survived by her daughter-in-law Renate Thompson of Annapolis, Maryland and longtime friend Elizabeth (Betsy) Davison of Naples. After graduating from North Hampton High School, she graduated from Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor changed career. She had planned on being an airline stewardess and had been accepted by American Airlines, at that time one must be a RN. With the declaration of war they stopped hiring. She joined the army with the 25th Evacuation Hospital Unit which set up a hospital in New Hebrides and New Caledonia in the South Pacific where they treated casualties from Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. She attained the rank of First Lieutenant. It is here where she met her husband who was a pilot and when, after the war, he became a Financial Officer, his family joined him while being stationed all over the world including time in Spain and Japan. Anna was very active in the Military Officers Association of SW Florida for many years and enjoyed being on the board as well as participating in the Association's Wives organization in support of local ROTC units.
