Anchorage resident Heidi Kristine Gillespie, 42, died Jan. 18, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a battle with colon cancer. A memorial service was held at St. John United Methodist Church, 1801 O'Malley Road. The Rev. David Beckett officiated. A second service was Feb. 4 in the Kansas City area.

Mrs. Gillespie was born Aug. 17, 1963, in Merriam, Kan., to Arthur and Grace Lubben. She grew up in Shawnee, Kan. She was the youngest of five children. In 1981, Heidi was valedictorian at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude in 1985 from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in French literature. She continued her post-graduate education in computer science and business administration. She married Eric Gillespie, her high school sweetheart of nearly 25 years, on March 20, 1992. They lived and worked in the Kansas City area, England and Florida before settling in Anchorage in 1998. For the last nine years, she worked as a medical software engineer for Cerner Corp. of Kansas City. She telecommuted from her Anchorage home. Her family wrote: "Heidi enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the cello and traveling the world. While living in London, she and Eric traveled throughout Europe and to Africa. Her favorite destination was France, which she visited nine times including five trips to Paris."

Mrs. Gillespie is survived by her husband, Eric; daughter, Elsa, and son, Ian; mother, Grace Lubben of Shawnee; brother, Mark Lubben of Pepperell, Mass.; sisters, Faith Wylie and Dawn Kester of Oologah, Okla., and Celeste Lubben of Shawnee. Arrangements are with Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
