The death of Mrs. Laura A. Hammond, 58 years, 5 months, and 12 days, occured this morning at 1:50 at St. John's Hospital, Anderson, following an operation for the removal of a large tumor in the stomach last Tuesday. She had been in a serious condition since the operation because of complications that set it. She was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Foland, pioneer residents of Madison County. She was born near Frankton, this county, March 15, 1867. Mrs. Hammond was very highly esteemed by all who knew her, a good Christian mother and a faithful church worker. She was a member of Joyce Chapel church and the W.T.C.U.
Deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Berg, who leaves at home; Also, one niece, Miss Margaret Foland, also residing at the Hammond home, three miles southeast of Alexandria. Four brothers also survive, James, William, John, and Thomas Foland, all of this city. A sister, Miss Clara Foland passed away about six weeks ago.
The body was brought to the Heritage & Son undertaking parlors early this morning and prepared for burial, afterward taken to the family home. The funeral will be held Saturday at Joyce Chapel at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. H.E. Forbes, of Arcola, Indiana, in charge. He will be assissted by Rev. C.A. Mills. Interment will take place in Park View Cemetery.
