"Asa B. Chase, one of the oldest residents of the town of Garrattsville, died at his late home just below the village of Garrattsville, Saturday, Feb. 2, 1907, aged eighty-eight years. Seventy years ago Mr. Chase went there to learn the tanner's trade of Henry Moore, who lived there at that time. After learning the trade he bought the business of Mr. Moore and has lived there since. He carried on the tannery many years, also worked at shoemaking. The burial was held Monday, at Butternuts Valley cemetery." [The Otsego Farmer (Cooperstown, NY), Fri., Feb. 8, 1907, p. 4]
