Sylvia M Leece, 87, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Mulder Health Care Facility, in West Salem, WI. She was born in the township of Excelsior, Sauk County, WI, the fifth daughter born to William and Emma (Holtz) Bartenbach.

Sylvia was baptized as an infant and then confirmed at St John's Lutheran Church in Ableman (now Rock Springs). In 1942 she graduated from Baraboo High School. She completed one year at Sauk County Teacher's College. On Aug 31, 1943, she married Robert Leece at the Lutheran church in Arkdale. They resided in North Freedom until Bob went into the US Army. After Bob's return, they lived in Rock Springs and North Freedom, where three sons were born.

They both worked at Badger Ordnance in Baraboo for many years. Bob's new career with the Wisconsin State Patrol led the family to move a few times, starting in Pardeeville, where two daughters were born. Sylvia worked at General Indicator Corp in Pardeeville for many years. The next journey was to West Salem, where Sylvia worked at Union State Bank and then at Lakeview Health Center. They then moved to Poynette, where Sylvia worked for National Air Photo until her retirement. Lastly, they moved to Bangor to be nearer to family. In their retirement, Bob and Sylvia loved camping, traveling and wintering in Apache Junction, AZ, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mother, your kind sweet nature will be forever in our hearts.

Preceding her in death were husband, Bob on Aug 10, 2006; her parents; a son, Robert Jr; and four sisters, Esther, Florence, Evelyn and Lorna.

Survivors include her four children; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
