Charles Baker, 65, Retired Foreman

Charles F. Baker, 65, a retired shop foreman for an automobile glass and paint company, died unexpectedly this morning at the Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, after he was stricken ill outside the Farm Show complex in Harrisburg.
He lived at 2132 Kentwood Drive and was the husband of Virginia A. Conley Baker, with whom he observed their 40th wedding anniversary in July.
Baker retired Dec. 31 as a shop foreman at Howell's Lancaster Auto Glass & Paint Co. Inc. after working there for 42 years.
During World War II, Baker served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a staff sergeant for radio control in Rome.
During the 1960s, Baker was assistant coach for the Lancaster Aquatic Club. An avid hunter and fisherman, Baker belonged to the Strasburg Sportsman's Association and the Bald Eagle Rod and Gun Club in Snyder County. He also belonged to Ascension Lutheran Church.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Jennie G. Steele Baker, Neffsville, and the late Nathan H. Baker.
Surviving besides his wife and mother are three children: Patrick C. and James F., both of Lancaster; and Cynthia S., wife of Robert H. Fisher, York; and four grandchildren.
Also surviving are 10 brothers and sisters: Katherine Sener, Bellingham, WA; M. Luther, Columbia; John W., Strasburg; and M. Esther, wife of Arthur Lamparter; Mary E., wife of Russell S. Schober; Dorothy M. Kurtz; Sarah, wife of John H. Thatcher; Dawn W., wife of Charles Herr; Nancy J., wife of Anthony Vital; and Barbara J., wife of Charles Colson, all of Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday at 11 am from Ascension Lutheran Church, 708 Wabank St., Lancaster, PA, with the Rev. Richard P. Bigelow officiating. Interment Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at Ascension Lutheran Church on Thursday morning from 10 til 11 am. Please omit flowers.
