Another Utah Pioneer Called
Joseph E. Alvord, a pioneer of West Weber, died at his home Thursday morning at 10:55, of old age. Mr Alvord was 77 years old, having been born at Waterford, Mich. December 4, 1830. He joined the Mormon church when but a boy and has always been a faithful member of the same. He passed through many of the hardships of early days and crossed the plains with an ox team in 1849, coming to Weber county in the year 1850, where he remained the rest of his life. Mr. Alvord made two trips back to Winter Quarters to assist hand cart companies across the plains. At the time of his death he was a member of the High Priest quorum of Weber Stake.
A wife, Sarah Mower Alvord, five children and eleven grandchildren survive him. Funeral services will be held at the West Weber meeting house next Monday morning at 11 o'clock. The interment will take place in the ward cemetery.
