Son of Abraham and Sarah(Trump)Bell. Enrolled in Co "I", 41ST Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Regiment engaged on second day at Battle of Shiloh, Apr 6/7 1862. 41st Ohio Volunteers part of Army of Ohio commanded by Maj. Genl. Don Carlos Buell. Buell's arrival early on Monday April 7, 1862 proved crucial to Union Army victory. The 41st Ohio suffered huge casualties in this its first major battle. Though Pvt. Joseph Bell came through battle unscathed, he would die of acute dysentary while in hospital at Nashville, TN. in Sep 1862. He was much mourned by his loved ones left behind in Ohio. His older brother, Richard, was my gg-Grandfather. My youngest son, Joseph E. F. Bell, is named in honor of Pvt. Joseph M. Bell. Jon C. Bell, San Diego CA. March 4, 2001
