Hazel Pearl Gates Stout, 88 of Brazil entered Heaven's Gates on February 21, 2007.
She was born in Anderson, IN on August 21, 1918, the surviving daughter of James Calvin Gates and Ada Smith Gates.

She lived in Anderson Indiana for 26 years working at Guide Lamp Division, GMC for 8 years. It was in Anderson where she met and married Jack H. Stout of Brazil. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together, before his death on February 5, 2000.

Mrs. Stout was hired as one of the pioneer J.C. Penney Catalog managers in Brazil. She held this position for 12 years until moving to Florida in 1973. She became the Montgomery Ward Catalog Manager in Altamonte Springs until she reached retirement age.

During her years in Brazil, she and her husband were members of the First Baptist Church where Mrs. Stout enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Mr. Stout served as an usher. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Brazil and also enjoyed bowling in various bowling leagues.

After moving to Florida, Mrs. Stout and her husband enjoyed reading, dancing to country western music, sewing, and working in their yard. They especially looked forward to visits from family members.

She will be remembered for her generous heart and love for all her family; for keeping her faith in her Redeemer and making sure her children knew Him also. Her family was always important to her and she never ceased to do all she could to meet others needs. We hold her dear and sweetly in our hearts.

Her survivors include her children; two sons Jack H. Stout, Jr. and wife Rhonda and James O. Stout and wife Debbi all of Terre Haute; one daughter Joan Stout Miller of Brazil; 7 grandchildren Jennifer Boener, J.O. Stout, Adam Stout, Matthew Stout, Anthony Stout, Andrea Miller Irish, and Erica Leigh Miller; 6 great-grandchildren Parker Stout, Alexander Stout, Julian Stout, Caden Boener, Cody Melega and Allie Melega; one brother George Gates and wife Alice of Bedford, IN; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack H. Stout, Sr; one brother Robert Gates and his wife Annabelle; half brother Albert Aleshire; infant sister Viola Annette Gates and a half sister Martha Louise Aleshire.

Funeral Information: Services will be held Sunday at 2:00pm at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Rev. Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12-2pm.
