The inscription reads: Asleep in Jesus/Mrs. Sarah Lee/wife of/E. J. Lee, Esqr./& daughter of/Richard Henry Lee/of Va./departed this life May 8th, 1837/in the 62nd year of her age./My Hope is in Christ./Her children shall rise up and/call her blessed."
A death notice for Mrs. Lee appeared in the May 10, 1837 issue of "The Alexandria Gazette," page 3, as per volume 3, "Tombstone Inscriptions of Alexandria, Virginia," 1992, by Wesley Pippenger.
