On September 24, 1925, at 3:45 P.M. Patrolman Pickett, a city motorcycle officer, was headed North on East 30th Street. As he approached the intersection of East 30th and Maury, a sand truck that was south bound on East 30th turned directly in front of Officer Pickett's motorcycle. Officer Pickett was thrown against the truck, suffering internal and severe head injuries.
Patrolman Picket was taken to the city hospital immediately after the accident. Four doctors worked frantically of three hours in an attempt of save his life. Officer Pickett died at 6:45 P.M.
Officer Gerald Pickett was survived by his wife and two children, Harold, 3 years old, and Betty, 4 months old. (Taken from Blue-Line) Badge # 228.
Gerald Pickett's parents are listed in funeral home records as Frank Pickett born in IA and Daisy Gift Pickett born in Pennsylvania. His wife is listed as Lucille Pickett and she apparently married Ellis W. Ervin after Gerald's death.
