Born in Durham County, Ms. Morton was the daughter of the late Robert Bishop Morton and the granddaughter of the late Errol Dewitt and Helen Carico Morton and Judson Blalock and Jerolene Garrett Rogers.
Sarah graduated from Person High School in 1999 and later graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2003. She taught 8th grade social studies at Southern Middle School.
In November, 2009, she received the National Board Teacher Certification and in December she received her master's degree in Library Science from East Carolina University.
At Southern Middle School, she was also the Student Council Advisor and the Yearbook Advisor. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church where she served as the young adult representative to the Administrative Council.
She was a member of the Roxboro Jaycees and served on their board. She was a co-chairperson of the Roxboro Junior Miss Program and served on the State Junior Miss Board. She was the Roxboro Jaycees' Outstanding Young Educator for 2008.
Sarah is survived by her mother, Rena' Rogers Morton; her brother, Nicholas Garrett Morton; her boyfriend, Carson Boose; her aunts and uncles, Judy and Carlton Batten, Judson and Rhonda Rogers, Gaynelle and Dante Winstead, Roger Mantle Rogers, Sonny and Rosalind Morton and Bruce and Patricia Wrenn.
