William "Bud" Mattingly, 77, died at 8:12 P.M. Monday at Deaconess Gateway Hospital at Newburgh. He had been seriously ill for six weeks. Born March 29, 1929, in Martin County, he was the son of Walter C. and Inez (Borders) Mattingly. He attended Washington Catholic Schools and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served two years overseas. He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Purdue) Mattingly, whom he married Dec. 21, 1957; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Alan and Bonita Mattingly, and Steve and Karen Mattingly, all of Washington; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Gregory and Janet Mattingly, both of Washington; two stepsons, Robert Davis of Washington, and Danny O'Bryan of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Holly and Abbie Mattingly, all of Washington; 15 step grandchildren; 44 step great-grandchildren; 16 step great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Louis "Eddie", Ira, Danny and James Vernon Mattingly, all of Washington; and one sister, Sue Lee of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom, Robert "Pork" and Joseph Dale Mattingly, and one stepdaughter, Leanna Strange. The funeral will be at 1 P.M. Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Yvonne Evans officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
