Della married four:
Adolph Hendrickson 1919 Brainerd, MN
Carl Olson 1922 Chicago, IL
Nathan Kaplan 1937, Crown Point, IN
Virgil Scott, about 1941 unknown location.
Della had lived the last two years of her life in Arizona.
Through the Civil War pension file of her grandfather, Jesse G. Daughtry (Doughtry) we learned that Della was not the biological daughter of James Edward Averitt but instead it was suspected that her real father was Major George Foster Barnes. He took his life only days before Della was born and it is interesting that Della was so named, as Major Barnes Daugher Della had died a year before, leaving him heartbroken.
In 2015 DNA was taken from the grandson of Della and it did indeed match Barnes family DNA and there is no connection to the Averitt line at all.
Modern technology helped prove the claims in the civil war pension file.
