VAN ALSTYNE - Michael Lee Akins, 64, of Van Alstyne passed away May 16, 2010 in Sherman.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1946 in McKinney to Euilee and Juanita (Murphy) Akins.
Michael married Jeanna "Susie" Shields on Aug. 20, 1968 in Nocona.
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was awarded the bronze star.
Michael worked as an insurance agent and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Michael is survived by his wife, Jeanna "Susie" Akins of Van Alstyne; son, Lance Akins and wife Brooke of Austin; daughter, Jenny Akins of Austin; grandchild, Layla Akins of Austin; one expected grandson; brother, Pat Akins of Van Alstyne; mother-in-law, Jean Shields of Georgetown; brother-in-law, Jimmy Shields and wife, Mary of Georgetown; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne with Don Hendrix and Jimmy Tarrant officiating.
Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 -8 p.m. Tuesday at Flesher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, P.O. Box 2306, Sherman, TX 75091.
