Yvonne Abbott 83, died Monday at the Eagle Pond Nursing Home in South Dennis.

She was the wife of Gordon Abbott, who died in July 1998.

Born in London, Mrs. Abbott was raised in Northampton. She graduated from Smith College in 1939 and married in 1941.

Before retiring to Cape Cod in 1973, she lived on Long Island, N.Y ., where she was an elementary school teacher for 20 years. She lived in Orleans until 1989, when she moved to Heatherwood in Yarmouthport.

Mrs. Abbott had an active retired life. She enjoyed volunteer work at Cape Cod Hospital and Snow Library and was also very active with the Smith Club of Cape Cod.

She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was very good at both.

She is survived by a son, Robert Abbott of Danville, Pa.; a daughter, Joan Hawkins of Harwich; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service is being planned for the future.
