Rodney B. Abbott Jr., 55, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Concord Hospital after a critical spine injury.


He was born Dec. 31, 1953, to Shirley (Dorval) Abbott and the late Rodney B. Abbott Sr.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked most of his life as a pressman. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, working on old cars and trucks, watching NASCAR, football and the Three Stooges. He also enjoyed spending time with his 10 grandchildren.

He was a loving, caring and hard-working man who will be deeply missed.

He was predeceased by his father, Rodney B. Abbott Sr.; his brother, David Abbott; and his son, Rodney B. Abbott III.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley (Dorval) Abbott and her companion, Donald Paige; his daughters, Billie-Jo and Jason Hatch and their two children, Tyler and Lauren, Jennifer and Jonathan Phillips and their three children, Emma, Grace and Jillian, Shannon and Paul Rhodes and their children, Travis, Isabella and Noah and Adrienne Abbott and her two children, Trey and Colin. He is the eldest of 14 children. His surviving siblings include, Linda Bourassa, Anthony Abbott, Norman Abbott, Debra Lawler, Victoria Tanguay, Lisa McAllister, Jeffrey Abbott, Douglas Abbott, Sherry St. Martin, Keith Abbott, Christine Lucier and Shirley Abbott.

Graveside services were held Nov. 27 at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Rally for Roddy Fund at any Laconia Savings Bank.

The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
