HAROLD A. BRITTON

Harold Arthur Britton, born Oct. 29, 1917 at Dunning, passed away suddenly July 4 at his home near Broken Bow. He was the third of four sons born to George and Lucy Schultz Britton.

He attended several schools along the Burlington Railroad route where his father was employed. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1933 and was later employed by the Dierks Lumber Yard at Merna. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

On March 2, 1941 he was united in marriage to Johanna Louise Marten. To this union two sons were born, William Harold and Joe David. He was an employee of the railway post office at Omaha when he purchased a ranch near Broken Bow in 1951. He has continued his farming and ranching career since that time.

He was baptized as a child and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna. He was a member of the American Legion at Broken Bow.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; son, William, and his wife, Mary; and granddaughters, Christine Jodeen and Cassandra Joleen, all of Oshkosh; one brother, Claire of Denver; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and son, Joe.

Funeral services were July 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Pallbearers were Elmer Birney, Eugene Thomas, Bradley Bartak, Don Cantrell, Vincent Gunther and Terry Buskirk.

Military graveside services were held at the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
